RFID Journal announced today that Matt Alexander, Walmart’s senior director of merchandising innovation, will speak at RFID Journal LIVE! 2022, which will take place on May 17-19 at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas. Alexander will discuss the retailer’s plans to expand its use of passive UHF RFID tags on apparel, home goods, some hardware and automotive items, and some entertainment products and toys.
“We’re extremely excited to have Walmart back at RFID Journal LIVE! again,” says Mark Roberti, RFID Journal’s founder and editor. “Given its importance in the retail market, the expansion of Walmart’s use of RFID will lead to more suppliers tagging goods and more retailers adopting the technology.”
On May 17, Alexander will explain why Walmart has expanded its RFID program, why it selected the specific categories it chose and why it has opted for an aggressive timeline—September 2022—for supplier products to arrive at stores already tagged (see Walmart Tries RFID Again and Walmart Recommits to RFID).
More retailers are adopting RFID to better managing in-store inventory, enable “buy online, pickup in store” (BOPIS) and ship-from-store, and improve the customer experience. Macy’s will also be at the conference, discussing how it is using RFID to combat organized retail crime (see Macy’s to RFID-Tag 100 Percent of Items, A Conversation With Macy’s Bill Connell and Platt Retail Institute Finds RFID-Based Inventory Accuracy, Sales and Satisfaction Gains at Macy’s).
RFID Journal LIVE! 2022 will feature more than 70 educational sessions in seven industry-specific and six technical and how-to conference tracks. New this year are tracks designed to help suppliers meet and benefit from retailers’ tagging requirements, and to show them how to integrate RFID into a manufacturing line.
The event will also feature RFID Professional Institute certification training, the co-located IEEE RFID 2022 event, the RFID Journal Awards and fast-track training provided by RFID4U. What’s more, the conference will offer exhibits and demonstrations conducted by the industry’s leading technology firms. For more information, visit rfidjournallive.com.
