“Our mission in Congress is to educate,” says Tim Heffernan, government relations and public affairs director for Symbol Technologies in this “Hear and Know” podcast, presented by AIM Global. “We want to promote innovation, encourage market solution and focus on law and enforcement of existing laws. The goal is to outlaw bad behavior not good behavior.”
Heffernan says that elected representatives are interested in RFID as a tool for authentication, including the authentication of pharmaceutical drugs, the identity of people through their passport and so on. Part of Heffernan’s efforts are to educate members of Congress about the technology’s ability to secure the food chain, the drug supply chain and cargo, by improving track and trace.
