It depends. Most tollway systems employ active RFID transponders. From what I have heard from the government entities controlling these roads, tags cost around $25 apiece. Some companies have introduced passive tags that cost a lot less, but because these tags don’t broadcast a signal, as active tags do, the reliability is not as high. Passive RFID labels that you can place on a windshield usually cost around $2 to $5 each.
