July 7, 2004—German retailer Metro, who last year issued a mandate requiring its top 100 suppliers to RFID-enable their shipments by 2005, has opened the “RFID Innovation Center” near Dusseldorf, Germany, where its suppliers and partners will be able to test their RFID implementations in preparation for final roll-out. IBM, Intel, Philips, SAP, Intermec, Checkpoint, Avery Dennison, SAMSys, and Verisign are some of the technology partners that participated in the center’s development.
