September 16, 2004—At this week’s Frontline Solutions Conference, aircraft manufacturer Boeing announced that in the first half of 2005 it will release specifications for suppliers to follow when RFID tagging shipments. Boeing did not indicate that it will issue a pressing mandate with which suppliers will need to comply. Indeed, the company is still conducting the necessary internal research to determine the order in which aircraft parts should ultimately be RFID tagged.
