RFID Journal Announces Keynote Speakers for LIVE! 2022

Johnson & Johnson Supply Chain will join RFID expert Bill Hardgrave, along with BAE Systems, City Furniture, and Stadium AB, and will explain how it uses RFID technology to improve product availability.

RFID Journal announced today that it has added Johnson &  Johnson Supply Chain (JJSC) to the lineup of keynote speakers at RFID Journal LIVE! 2022. The conference and exhibition will take place on May 17-19 at Las Vegas's Mandalay Bay Convention Center. Aleasha Burnell, Johnson & Johnson Supply Chain's director of pharma QS applications, will explain how the company uses RFID technology throughout its supply chain to ensure it gets the right orthopedic products to the right place at the right time (see Johnson & Johnson Supply Chain Improves Product Availability for Orthopedic Loaner Sets With RFID).

"RFID Journal LIVE! has always featured great case studies from which attendees can learn," says Mark Roberti, RFID Journal's founder and editor. "This project won an RFID Journal Award for the Best Healthcare RFID/IoT Implementation in 2020. The process of managing complex products with RFID is something that applies to many businesses, even if their model is different than JJSC's, so our attendees will learn a lot."

Orthopedic products are delivered to customers in loaner sets for each individual surgery (see Johnson & Johnson Supply Chain Improves Product Availability for Orthopedic Loaner Sets with RFID). A set contains hundreds of products because surgeons don't know exactly which items they will need until a procedure is underway. A surgeon will utilize some products in the set, then return the unused items to JJSC's distribution centers for reconciliation and restocking.

Although the company had already used RFID to track the complete loaner sets, it needed a standard solution that would work throughout the entire supply chain. During the LIVE! keynote, Burnell will explain how JJSC improved the orthopedic loaner set replenishment process, while standardizing RFID tagging with GS1's Electronic Product Code (EPC) standards. She will detail how the system saved time and labor, as well as how it improved cycle times and product availability.

In addition to the JJSC session, the agenda will feature a keynote address provided by BAE Systems, which will discuss its use of RFID to improve warehouse utilization and point-of-use replenishment (see BAE Systems Gets Smart with Warehouse Utilization and POU Replenishment). In addition, Macy's will discuss how the retailer is employing RFID to combat organized retail theft (see Using RFID to Bring Down Organized Retail Crime).

In addition, Dr. Bill Hardgrave, the president of The University of Memphis, formerly of the Auburn University RFID Lab, will outline the steps retailers need to take to increase customer satisfaction with "buy online, pickup in store" (BOPIS), while streamlining processes and controlling costs (see Long-Term Revenue From The 'BOPIS Boost'). And Deirdre Schmidt, BAE Systems' operations excellence leader, will join Johan Stenstrom, the supply chain developer at Swedish sporting goods retailer Stadium AB, and Chad Simpson, City Furniture's senior VP of technology, for a panel on the lessons learned by companies experienced in deploying RFID (see 20 Years of RFID Journal LIVE: Lessons Learned From Experienced End Users).

LIVE! 2022 will feature more than 90 educational sessions in eight industry-specific and nine technical and how-to conference tracks, RFID Professional Institute certification training, the co-located IEEE RFID 2022 event, the RFID Journal Awards and fast-track training provided by RFID4U. What's more, the conference will offer exhibits and demonstrations conducted by the industry's leading technology firms. For more information, visit rfidjournallive.com.

Exhibitors at RFID Journal LIVE! 2022 will offer tagging solutions for a wide variety of use cases—those discussed above, as well as many others. To learn more, visit the event's website.
