Aviation wasn’t the earliest adopter of RFID but we learned a lot from watching the other industries trying to make it work across their supply chains. Knowing where around the world we need to fix airplanes, the system was designed that could work without being connected full time to a network and database – totally different than other industries. The aviation solution that everyone knows about is baggage tracking, but RFID does so much more in the maintenance sector to keep us safe, reduce our costs, and create a differentiator between airlines who do and don’t use RFID. Not much discussion of a theoretical strategy in this session – instead, we’ll discuss how to solve real world problems in maintaining aircraft, tooling, and more.
