Most active RFID tags have a read range of from 300 feet (91 meters) to 1,500 feet (460 meters). It is possible to use repeaters to extend read range, but I am unaware of any RFID system that can locate an object within a 1-square-mile area without a large number of interrogators being installed around and within a site’s perimeter. Perhaps our readers might be able to suggest a viable solution.
