Do you know if there is currently any reader available that would provide audio feedback about the items that it reads?

Motorola‘s handheld RFID readers have a Geiger counter function. As you get closer to a tag, the unit beeps louder and more frequently, helping you to pinpoint a specific tagged item.
Most ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) fixed RFID readers have input-output ports. Companies often use lights to indicate that a tag or a set of tags have been read, but you could connect the output port to a device that would provide an audible indicator of the read event.
