Wal-Mart Plans Next Phase Of RFID

July 21, 2004—Wal-Mart global RFID strategy manager Simon Langford confirmed Tuesday the retailer’s next steps in its aggressive RFID initiative. The top 100 suppliers are all on track to meet the January 2005 deadline, as are another 30-plus “volunteers.” The next 200 biggest suppliers will be required to support the RFID mandate by Januray 2006. Langford said that the industry is maturing rapidly, noting that RFID reader and tag prices are half of what they were a year ago.
