The technologies and applications of the Internet of Things in the area of agribusiness are the subject of a seminar that will be held on the premises of CPqD, in Campinas, Brazil, on Mar. 15. Organized by the Brazilian Internet of Things Forum, the seminar, titled “Smart Agribusiness,” will be offered in a series of events scheduled for this year, with the support of CPqD.

“Agribusiness is one of the most important segments of the Brazilian economy, in volume of business and export, and that invests heavily in the development of its own technology,” says Gabriel Marão, the forum’s president. “IoT technologies will certainly revolutionize many aspects of agribusiness.”

Scheduled for 9 AM, the seminar will bring together companies and research and development institutions that work in this sector, as well as others interested in the subject. The program will include lectures by representatives of BNDES, Grupo São Martinho, Fibria, McKinsey and CPqD itself, which will address the applications of ICTs in agribusiness.

There will also be a panel titled “Innovations in the Field,” with the participation of Embrapa, Qualcomm, Bayer and the Center for Innovation in Agribusiness (CIAg). The panel will offer opportunities and challenges from the perspectives of suppliers of products and services, with representatives from John Deere, Case, Jacto, Tropico and Agrosmart.

“One of the missions of the Brazilian Internet of Things Forum is to promote the debate about the status of the Internet of Things in the global scenario and its development in Brazil,” Marão says. The seminar’s complete program can be obtained at the forum’s website.
