August 3, 2004—South Africa-based iPico has released an RFID-based vehicle identification system whose applications include electronic licensing, tolling, traffic and speed control, ticketing and cross-border control. The system can reportedly handle reading more than 7,000 tags per minute from vehicles travelling at speeds as high as 250 km/h.
