Corvus Integration Selects Identiv Smart-Card Reader Board for Multi-Biometric Border-Patrol Solution
Identiv has announced that it is partnering with Corvus Integration, a provider of biometric, identity-management and security solutions. In this partnership, Corvus will integrate Identiv’s 4501 contact and contactless smart-card reader board into its recently launched Corvus Tetrad biometric solution, used for border patrol to enhance security through a combination of biometrics and smart cards. The Identiv smart-card reader supports the latest security standards, including contact ISO/IEC 7816, contactless ISO/IEC 14443 and Near Field Communication (NFC).
The Corvus Tetrad solution—a modified version of the Corvus Sleeve biometric solution—utilizes the newly integrated biometrics appendix F-certified “Five-O” four-slap fingerprint scanner. Combining an integrated biometric fingerprint scanner with Corvus’ dual iris collect and 5mp face camera, the Tetrad solution integrates the 4501 contact and contactless smart-card reader and a Machine Readable Zone (MRZ) reader. Tetrad is designed to withstand challenging environments, featuring a rugged case and utilizing an 8-inch tablet running in Microsoft Windows 10 Professional with 4G of RAM, a 64GB SSD and external ports. The solution comes with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, as well as optional 3G and 4G support.
“We are committed to delivering the most secure, innovative solutions to help protect our borders,” said Jeff Kormanec, Corvus Integration’s CEO, in a prepared statement. “Partnering with U.S.-based Identiv allows us to bring one of the most secure—and powerful—portable biometric devices to market utilizing the latest smart card technology. We look forward to extending our partnership with Identiv and bringing more handheld biometric innovations to market to reliably identify users and better secure our borders.”
The secure 4501 uTrust 4501 F Dual Interface Smart Card Reader Board provides optimized transaction times, supporting 84 kBit/second in ISO/IEC 14443 and 600 kBit/second in ISO/IEC 7816m, to quickly identify smart-card users via the Tetrad solution. Additionally, the board provides full NFC capability, complete with network log-on and secure Web-based transactions, to ensure secure access network. The solution is interoperable, making it a suitable 13.56 MHz contactless and contact reader board for application integration, and to support next-generation applications.
“Identiv is a technology innovator and provider of smart card interface solutions supporting the latest industry standards,” said Manfred Mueller, Identiv’s chief operating officer and general manager of smart-card readers and transponders, in the prepared statement. “By partnering with OEMs, such as Corvus, we can integrate support for contact and contactless smart cards for various use cases such as patrolling our borders. We look forward to extending our partnership with Corvus.”
Quuppa, Nesa Solutions Team Up on Location-based Workflows for Health Care
Quuppa, a provider of indoor positioning technology, has announced that its partner Nesa Solutions has launched its INSIGHT Location Intelligence system. Quuppa provides an open, low-cost and scalable platform for partners that require accurate, real-time positioning. INSIGHT Location Intelligence is a robust, end-to-end software solution that helps health-care systems and other enterprises effectively manage personnel, patients and assets in their environment. INSIGHT utilizes Quuppa’s positioning technology to locate individual and assets down to a few centimeters, and uses that data to create business rules surrounding their movements.
The first announced deployment of the INSIGHT solution is with Nicklaus Children’s Health System, in Miami, Fla.—a 2.5 million-square-foot facility that demonstrates the enterprise-grade quality that Nesa Solutions brings to health care and other industries, as well as the scalability of the Quuppa platform.
“With the addition of the INSIGHT services platform into our environment, we will be able to accurately track and manage many of the inefficiencies present in healthcare today,” said Ed Martinez, Nicklaus Children’s Health System’s CIO and senior VP, in a prepared statement. “From hand washing compliance to patient and provider tracking to quality care management and more, we believe our investment in this new technology is the next generation in healthcare compliance, management and outcomes improvement.”
One example of INSIGHT in action involves hospital hygiene, a highly regulated area of day-to-day hospital operations. Using the INSIGHT system with Quuppa’s location information as a key component, hospitals can establish a business rule to track the path of doctors and nurses to ensure compliance based on their path and stopping point at the sink or sanitizer dispenser. Among other use cases is the tracking of mobile equipment such as crash carts, wheelchairs, IV stands and other valuable assets.
“Everything in a hospital is based on motion, from the time a patient walks into the door to discharge,” said Neil Salem, Nesa Solutions’ CEO and founder, in the prepared statement. “Because we know where everything is we have the ability to impact not only business processes, but the quality of patient care by making it a more personal experience. Hand hygiene, patient security, asset tracking, crash cart readiness—all of these are separate workflows that we’ve brought together in INSIGHT and enabled all sorts of innovative capabilities because we have the most accurate dot on the map with the Quuppa technology.”
“Quuppa’s highly accurate location technology allows companies like Nesa Solutions to execute workflows that no one in the industry has been able to do before,” added Fabio Belloni, Quappa’s general manager and co-founder, in the prepared statement. “They have been a valuable partner in bringing to life solutions for healthcare and other industries enabled by the most advanced indoor positioning technology.”
Seldat Technology Services Intros RFID Automation System for 3PL Warehouse Management
Seldat Technology Services (STS), a division of Seldat Distribution, has introduced an RFID solution designed for 3PL warehouse management. STS’s RFID technologies are used globally in warehouses that handle food and beverages, automotive components and consumer packaged goods.
STS analyzed the traditional problems associated with introducing RFID automation to 3PL warehouses. Challenges included incompatible hardware and software within existing operations, operational issues across all RFID products from different vendors, and interference from other tracking systems. Warehouse assets often required intensive modifications to physically and digitally accommodate RFID technologies.
Solutions based on Seldat’s own 3PL operations include RFID readers, scanners, gateways and other equipment developed by STS; middleware pre-configured and fully integrated with WMS360, STS’s warehouse-management system; hardware built for complex, high-volume 3PL processes and environments; and hardware tools that can be retrofitted to existing equipment, such as forklifts, conveyor belts and racking systems.
Seldat’s RFID solution offer automated data capture and analysis in real time, visibility and traceability within and beyond the warehouse, real-time location and inventory management, strategic planning with advanced business intelligence, reduced implementation times with fewer challenges, and 45 to 55 percent cost savings compared to related RFID implementation options in the market.
“As a global leader in technology-driven supply chain solutions,” said Chacko Verghese, the company’s senior VP and global chief technology officer, in a prepared statement, “we’re proud to introduce an RFID solution that promotes complete visibility, traceability, and significant cost savings for Third Party Logistics providers worldwide.”
