RFID Journal today announced that it has acquired RFID Update, a leading news site and daily newsletter focused on radio frequency identification. The company says the purchase will strengthen its position as the global leader in providing news and strategic insights regarding radio frequency identification. Terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed.

RFID Journal‘s goal from the very beginning was to be the global source for information about RFID technologies and their many business and consumer applications,” says Mark Roberti, the company’s founder and editor. “We look forward to serving RFID Update’s readers and providing them with continued high-quality editorial content, as well as offering RFID Update’s advertisers with access to the largest RFID audience in the world.”

RFID Update will cease publication of RFID news articles, though RFID Journal will continue to make archived RFID Update’s articles available on the Web. Subscribers to RFID Update’s daily newsletter will now receive RFID Journal‘s weekly newsletter instead.

“We are pleased to be able to hand over the reins of our editorial to a company that has contributed so much to RFID adoption and the industry itself,” says Will Smith, RFID Update’s editor. “No other acquirer could have brought as much expertise or experience to our readers as RFID Journal.”

“We will make the valuable content that RFID Update produced over the past five years available to our readers and RFID Update’s readership,” Roberti states. “The RFID community of end users, technology manufacturers and service providers will all benefit from this addition to the RFID Journal Web site.”
