Pharmaceuticals Industry Expected To Lead In RFID Tags On Items

July 13, 2004—ARC Advisory Group released research this week indicating that pharmaceuticals might be the first industry to deploy item-level RFID tagging. Unlike, say, razorblades, the high per-item cost of a bottle of pharmaceuticals justifies the expense of individual tagging. Further motivation includes FDA pressure, anti-counterfeiting benefits, and easier recalling.
