Do Any RFID Readers Function at Extremely Low Temperatures?

Published: January 8, 2013

Our company is looking for ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) readers, both handheld and stationary, that can operate at temperatures as low as -40 degrees Celsius (-40 degrees Fahrenheit). So far, I’ve only come across a version from TagMaster. Are there any others?

I am unaware of any other interrogators that work out of the box at -40 degrees Celsius. Generally speaking, fixed readers used in cold or other environments are placed within enclosures to protect them from the elements. These enclosures are typically manufactured by NEMA Enclosures, Adalet, Hammond Manufacturing and other companies. If any of our readers know of other fixed readers that can operate at such a low temperature, without the enclosure, or of any handhelds able to function at this temperature range, they are invited to post a note below.
