August 23, 2004—On the heels of last week’s news regarding NEC’s contract with a Japanese bank to RFID tag financial documents, news comes this week of a Swedish company called Cypak receiving the equivalent of $4 million in funding from the Swedish Industrial Development Fund to develop a similar technology: RFID security tags so cheap that they can be implanted in paper and other disposable materials. The company has already landed a number of clients, including paper giant MeadWestvaco.
