But now, after its splashy and long-anticipated move into RFID with the $230 million Matrics purchase in June, Symbol has become one of the most closely watched companies in the space. Some predict that its acquisition will mark the beginning of RFID industry consolidation as larger companies seek to establish their dominance as early and aggressively as possible in the nascent, high-growth radio frequency identification market.
