RFID Journal announced today that the two companies will hold the event in Bogota, Colombia, from Aug. 31 to Sept. 1, with the aim of educating businesses in that region regarding how RFID can improve the way they do business.

RFID Journal announced today that it has partnered with LOGyCA, a leading supply chain services firm based in Bogotá, Colombia, to launch RFID Journal LIVE! Latin America (LatAm). The conference will be held in Bogotá on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1, 2010.

"A growing number of companies in Latin America are interested in using RFID to improve the visibility of assets, personnel and products moving through their supply chains," says Mark Roberti, RFID Journal's founder and editor. "We are pleased to work with LOGyCA to bring RFID Journal's high-quality content to the region."

Among the case studies to be featured at the event will be an innovative solution developed by Almacafé, the coffee-warehousing subsidiary of the National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia, which delivers traceability of Colombian specialty coffees from farm to consumer. Almacafé recently won the 2010 RFID Journal Award for the Best Use of RFID in a Product or Service, for developing and implementing the solution (see RFID Journal Announces Winners of Its 4th Annual Awards).

Among the other confirmed speakers will be:

Luis Vicente Ortega, the dynamic-response manager of Mexico's Liverpool department-store chain

Sanjay Sarma, a cofounder of the MIT Auto-ID Center and the creator of the Electronic Product Code (EPC)

Ian Robertson, GS1 EPCglobal US's director of global industry development

"RFID is becoming an important tool for companies that want visibility into their operations," says Rafael Florez, the director of LOGyCA. "This is an important event for all companies in the region, because they need to understand how vital this emerging technology is."

Attendees to RFID Journal LIVE! LatAm will have the opportunity to network with leading RFID solutions providers in Latin America, as well as tour LOGyCA's five-acre EPC RFID research campus in Bogotá.
