Vatican Library adopts RFID

July 9, 2004—The Vatican has tagged almost half of its more than 100,000 books with Texas Instruments RFID tags specially designed to avoid damage to the priceless volumes. It is estimated that the annual process of inventory checking which currently requires closing the library for a full month will take a mere half-day under the new RFID system.
