Jan 27, 2006GS1 Germany will hold an RFID Forum at CeBIT, the annual conference and exhibition, which will be held in Hanover, Germany, from March 9 to 15. The RFID Forum includes expert reports and case studies and offers CeBIT visitors from a wide variety of industries an opportunity to learn about RFID and discuss its potential.

“With intensive interplay between developers and users from various economic sectors, radio frequency identification makes it possible to more efficiently manage business processes and flows of goods, thereby achieving a lasting increase in one’s own competitive position,” says Jörg Pretzel, managing director of GS1 Germany.

CeBIT is the world’s largest technology trade fair. It has acknowledged the increasing importance of RFID by devoting an entire section of the trade fair to it for the first time. The hub and focus of the interdisciplinary exchange of expertise is the RFID Forum. Each day experts and representatives of major companies will provide a succinct overview of the innovative possible applications of RFID in two topic areas, which include central logistics processes, “the future of shopping,” “mobility and traffic” and “RFID in intelligent technology networks.”

“We want to communicate expertise and current trends in a compact manner while at the same time offering a basis for increased interaction between the providers of hardware and software on the one hand, and those who utilise RFID applications on the other,” says Pretzel.

The event will be kicked off by representatives from science, business and the associations who will be discussing visions, perspectives and the concrete implementation of RFID scenarios under the banner of “Business Process Excellence with RFID.”

The RFID Forum is being held in conjunction with Deutsche Messe AG as part of CeBIT in Hall 6 on the trade fair grounds in Hanover. The event is being sponsored by the Federal Association for IT Commerce (Bundesverband Informationswirtschaft, Telekommunikation und neue Medien e.V. (BITKOM)).
