STAR Systems International Intros Multi-Protocol Tolling Reader

STAR Systems International (SSI), a Hong Kong-based RFID hardware, tag and professional services provider, has announced the launch of its Titan multi-protocol tolling reader. Designed for high-speed tolling systems, Titan supports four antennas and multiple RF communications protocols, including ISO 18000-6C/63, TDM (IAG), ISO 18000-6B-80k, ISO 18000-6B, ISO 10374 (ATA), Title 21 (T21), Artefato SJ5511 and FLEX.

The Titan reader features cellular signal rejection, Doppler compensation and pre-distortion optimization. These features, according to the company, work together to provide high read accuracy for open-road tolling and multi-lane free-flow systems.

"This is not just another RFID reader," said Stephen Lockhart, SSI's CTO, in a prepared statement. "Titan is the next step in cognitive radio design and takes the state of the industry a significant step forward with innovative features to improve performance in the demanding roadside environment."

Titan offers an upper operating temperature of 70 degrees Celsius (ambient) and can transmit at full power using Power-over-Ethernet. An internal database can store up to 1 million transactions, the company reports, adding that Titan's flexible software platform has been designed to accommodate future upgradeability.

"SSI has spent considerable time and resources bringing this world-class product to the Smart-City initiative markets," said Bob Karr, SSI's managing director, in the prepared statement. "We are proud and excited to now offer Titan to our partners. We expect that Titan will set the standard for tolling readers for years to come and be a key to enabling smart cities worldwide."
