How Much Will the United States Spend on RFID by 2020?

What are the expected trends for the U.S. government’s spending on the technology over the next decade or so?

I have not seen any recent projections for U.S. government spending on radio frequency identification, though the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) has issued a contract worth $429 million (see U.S. Defense Department Picks Four for RFID III).

I expect non-military spending on RFID to be slow over the next two or three years, since tax revenues are declining and there won’t be much funding available for new technology. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be anyone at a high level who understands that RFID could save the U.S. government millions of dollars annually.
