June 28, 2004—There are two groups whose competing standards proposals are under consideration at EPCglobal: “Global” and “Freedom”. At this stage, one of the major philosophical disagreements between the two is whether those companies that have contributed intellectual property to the standards should be compensated; the Global group – including Zebra, Intermec, and Philips – is for compensation, while Freedom – including Alien and Matrics – is against.
