August 13, 2004—Forrester Research’s recent report on RFID middleware, available on the company’s site for $299, considered 13 providers: ConnecTerra, GlobeRanger, IBM, Manhattan Associates, Microsoft, OATSystems, Oracle, RF Code, SAP, Savi Technology, Sun Microsystems, TIBCO Software, and webMethods. The research was conducted in two “waves.” The first looked at middleware from providers such as OATSystems and Manhattan Associates that targets companies under pressure to meet RFID mandate deadlines. The second wave considered middleware that would be part of an enterprise’s longer term, gradually implemented RFID strategy. Oracle, IBM, and SAP were among those listed in this group, with the latter exhibiting the most promise as the long-term leader.
