September 30, 2004—Household brand name Campbell Soup is one of the many companies affected by Wal-Mart’s RFID mandate. Through its process of learning about and working with RFID, Campbell has decided on the “slap and ship” method of affixing RFID tags to its products, a method which it says has allowed flexibility in experimenting with the technology. “We prefer to call it ‘tag at ship,’ not ‘slap and ship,’ because it has proven to be a very successful process,” said the company’s IT director.
