August 24, 2004—RFID will play a huge roll in the pharmaceutical industry, predicted Meta Group last week in a research report. While it will probably take longer than three years before RFID tagging is implemented at the case and pallet level in the pharmaceuticals supply chain, RFID will nonetheless wield enormous influence in the areas of inventory management, product recalling, counterfeit prevention, and side-effect identification (preventing individuals from taking drugs which could cause adverse reactions).
