January 4, 2005—Those who thought that livestock tagging was RFID’s sole animal tracking application will be surprised that Calgary, Alberta-based Advanced ID Corporation has landed a contract from the province of Newfoundland and the University of Prince Edward Island valued at $135,000 to RFID tag fish in Canada’s Atlantic waters. The company is working aggressively to establish a leadership position in RFID-based animal identification and tracking. It currently has poultry-tracking projects in Asia and livestock-tracking projects in South America underway.
