The integrity of both U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and commercial electronic systems is challenged by the presence of counterfeit integrated circuits (ICs) in the supply chain. DARPA created the Supply Chain Hardware Integrity for Electronics Defense (SHIELD) program to develop hardware and software that enhances supply chain traceability and discourages electronics counterfeiting.
