RE: Next year CA will start use RFID in pharma?

California plans to begin requiring drug pedigrees starting in 2015. The FDA has not indicated that RFID should be used to collect pedigree data. The problem with using 2D bar codes is if you need to collect data on billions of individual vials of drugs and pill bottles, it will require a large army of workers to collect the data. This is clearly not viable from a cost of doing business perspective. It is likely that the tags will be killed at the point of sale to protect consumer privacy.
