Symbol buys RFID rival Matrics

July 28, 2004—Symbol Technologies announced Tuesday its intent to purchase RFID leader Matrics in a cash deal worth $230 million. Symbol believes that companies will eventually seek one end-to-end RFID solution provider, rather than mixing and matching various RFID vendors to arrive at the final implementation, as they do now.
