St. James’s Hospital (SJH), a 60-acre medical campus with 1,085 beds and more than 4,500 employees, located in Dublin, Ireland, is using GS1 EPC RFID technology to track the location and identification of people and assets on their journey through the hospital. SJH also monitors the locations of precious samples (biopsy tissues) taken from patients during theatre procedures and sent to the Central Pathology Laboratory (CPL) for analysis, following a successful trial. Relevant personnel are contacted via SMS and e-mail if the samples do not arrive by a specified time, enabling staff to quickly locate them. Following the successful conclusion of the precious samples trail, the facility implemented RFID technology to track fine art, public wheelchairs and vulnerable patients in strategic areas of the campus. Learn how SJH has successfully introduced RFID technology as a means of tracking and tracing all entities throughout the hospital campus, thereby improving patient care and efficiency based on the collected data.
