RFID in Manufacturing: Virtual Event Presentations Now Available

By RFID Journal

Hear how manufacturing firms are using RFID to achieve business benefits.

Manufacturing companies across numerous industries are employing radio frequency identification to achieve major benefits, both in their supply chains and in their factory operations. With that in mind, RFID Journal held a virtual event on June 4, 2019, called RFID in Manufacturing. This online event explained the benefits that leading manufacturing companies are achieving from utilizing the technology.

Archived recordings of the presentations are now available for viewing. Please note that you must be a Registered User or Premium Member of RFID Journal to view the recordings, since you will be prompted to enter a valid e-mail address and password before doing so. Developing an RFID Strategy for Manufacturing
Speaker: Mark Roberti, Founder and Editor, RFID Journal
RFID can deliver a great deal of benefits to manufacturers in many different areas, but without coherent strategies, companies often wind up deploying the technology piecemeal, only to find that it fails to meet their longer-term needs. This session explained how to create a long-term strategy that can enable businesses to choose technologies that will best meet their ongoing needs across a wide variety of applications, as well as how to prioritize projects in the near term.

Smart Manufacturing: Identification and Sensing Technologies Driving the Industrial 4.0 Revolution
Speaker: Jason Herro, Practice Director of Manufacturing, HID Global
Several elements are critical to the success of smart manufacturing organizations: quickly identifying and locating assets, improving visibility into operational workflows and processes, and boosting equipment capacity and efficiency. During this session, attendees learned how implementing trusted identification systems using RFID and BLE transponders can significantly reduce the time and cost required to manage, monitor and measure across the manufacturing ecosystem with end-to-end systems. Applications discussed included embedded RFID for consumable lifecycle management, inventory and supply chain, real-time location systems, and monitoring equipment condition and health.

RFID System Brings Visibility to Industrial Supply Chains
Speaker: Andrew Johnson, CEO, ShelfAware
O-Ring Sales & Service, a Kansas City-based distributor of O-rings and specialized components, has developed an RFID-based solution to manage its industrial manufacturer customer's inventory at manufacturing sites. The system, known as ShelfAware, allows the supplier and its customers to track which components are onsite at any given time, via an RFID tag on each product package, as well as readers at the storage area to identify when parts are consumed. The system uses the consumption data to ensure that products are automatically reordered as needed, while also helping the manufacturer to understand its inventory levels and reduce labor costs. During this session, the firm's CEO discussed how RFID has played a crucial role in the development of its Internet of Thing systems.
