Texas Instruments sells a chip, the TRF7960, that can be used for different high-frequency (HF) protocols, which means it can be utilized in both proximity and vicinity applications. For more information, visit

In addition, Impinj has been working to develop an ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) tag that can operate in both the near and far fields, which means it can be read at both short and long ranges. No tags with this capability are currently on the market, however.
