If an RFID transponder is embedded in ABS plastic 1 centimeter (0.4 inch) thick, can it be read from a distance of one foot?

Plastics of all kinds, including acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), are generally RF-friendly. Thus, embedding a transponder into plastic would have very little impact on your ability to read a tag. A passive high-frequency (HF) tag could be read from as far away as three feet, while a passive ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) transponder could be read from even further away, depending on your application.
