October 4, 2004—Tesco’s highly publicized initiative to RFID-enable its supply chain, dubbed Secure Supply Chain, has begun. By the end of this year, the giant UK grocer expects to be RFID tagging and tracking goods shipped from its central distribution center to each of its 98 Tesco Extra superstores. OATSystems’ Foundation Suite was chosen for the initiative’s middleware and will be deployed across all of Tesco’s stores as the RFID initiative expands throughout 2006.
