EPCglobal Canada, a nonprofit user-driven organization supporting the adoption of Electronic Product Code (EPC) technology, and RFID Journal have announced that the next RFID Journal LIVE! Canada event has been rescheduled to 2009. Although this year’s RFID Journal LIVE! Canada conference—previously slated for Dec. 1-3—has been postponed due to the current economic uncertainty, RFID Journal will offer three RFID Journal University seminars at the Toronto Congress Centre on Dec. 1, 2008.

One session, entitled Using RFID to Cut Costs, will provide attendees with an understanding of the basics of radio frequency identification, and explain how to employ proven applications of the technology to reduce expenses. A second session, RFID in Health Care, will focus on RFID applications in the health-care sector, while the third, RFID in Retail, will cover applications in that industry. The health-care and retail seminars will be produced in conjunction with Academia RFID, and attendees will receive certification from that organization.

“RFID technology is clearly gaining momentum in Canada, but we believe the need for a broad educational conference focused on RFID and EPC technologies, and a robust exhibition, will be greater in the coming year,” says Mark Roberti, founder and editor of RFID Journal. “For this year, it makes more sense to provide targeted education.”

RFID Journal LIVE! Canada 2007 was that country’s largest RFID event last year, attracting top-name speakers and attendees from a wide variety of industries. A key component of the 2009 conference will be helping Canadian companies comply with EPC tagging requirements, as well as achieve internal and supply chain benefits using EPC RFID technology.

“We’re fully committed to educating Canadian companies about the benefits of RFID technologies and EPC standards,” says N. Arthur Smith, president of GS1 Canada. “We are looking forward to an exciting event next year.”
