August 24, 2004—Since its purchase of the RFID technology last year, the Malaysian government has actively been involved in development and promotion of the 0.25 mm-wide Malaysian Microchip, or “MM Chip.” Reportedly the world’s smallest, the write-once RFID chip holds 32 bytes of data and can communicate at frequencies between 13.56 MHz and 2.45 GHz. A field test of the technology will be conducted in the latter part of this year, with mass production slated to commence in early 2005.
