August 4, 2004—Research company Gartner has released “Emerging Technologies Hype Cycle 2004,” which predicts the path for a number of currently hyped technologies. According to the report, RFID has five years before passing its current stage of receiving heavy attention from the press and industry. In ten years, as interest in case and pallet tagging is exhausted, item-level RFID tagging will come to the fore, gaining momentum and gathering hype.
