September 1, 2004—Electronics retailer Best Buy will roll out a comprehensive RFID-based supply chain strategy over the next few years, adding to the list of giant U.S. retailers embracing the technology. The company developed its program after carefully considering the potential of radio frequency identification through participation in EPCglobal and discussions with its suppliers. Consulting powerhouse Accenture will play an active role in helping Best Buy realize the plan. Mid-2007 is when the company expects its suppliers to be tagging all shipments.
