September 23, 2004—The leadership at Avery Dennison sees RFID as the giant label maker’s “largest long-term health opportunity,” and to that end the company has formed an RFID business unit that will manufacture tags and inlays. It hopes to quickly capture market share by leveraging an already strong distribution network in the pharmaceutical industry, a lucrative and high-growth niche for RFID. The company anticipates ultimately producing hundreds of millions of radio frequency identification labels each year.
