Actility, a provider of Internet of Things (IoT)-based connectivity solutions, has announced that Modern Software (ModSoft), an IT and telecommunications solutions supplier, has become its premium network partner in Oman. The companies, according to Actility, will work to improve the digital transformation journey of their clients in order to forge an innovation ecosystem in that country. Actility selected ModSoft based on its experience collaborating with IoT service providers.

Actility’s network partners are value-added resellers providing consultancy, systems integration, networks and support. ModSoft was already an Actility partner, providing advice and technology to facilitate IoT business models, including for low-power wide-area networks (LPWANs). The company has experience with Actility’s ThingPark Wireless system, a modular, scalable, multi-technology (LTE-M, NB-IoT and LoRaWAN) IoT platform, as well as with ThingPark X IoT Flow. This will allow it to devise telecom solutions tailored to accommodate customers’ specific needs.

Actility Teams with Abeeway, Combain on AI-Powered Indoor Location

In addition, Actility has partnered with Abeeway and Combain on a collaboration involving artificial intelligence (AI)-powered indoor location solutions. This partnership will enable the companies to combine IoT connectivity, geolocation services and positioning technologies, and it will focus on creating a solution for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth-based indoor geolocation. By bringing their respective technologies together, Actility explains, the companies plan to provide an indoor positioning system leveraging AI algorithms and deep-learning techniques.

Combain utilizes AI to train an artificial neural network using ground-truth geolocation, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth MAC addresses, and signal strength. This approach goes beyond traditional trilateration methods, the firm claims, in order to reduce median errors. Indoor geolocation services for LoRaWAN devices will be a large focus for this partnership. The collaboration will seek to drive cross-promotion and lead generation, and to open opportunities in the growing market of indoor positioning solutions.

Actility will contribute network infrastructure and cloud-based services. Abeeway, an Actility subsidiary, has expertise in geolocation technologies, including GPS, low-power GPS, Wi-Fi sniffing and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beaconing. Combain, which has a vast database of cell IDs, as well as Wi-Fi and BLE positions, will provide its AI-powered indoor location technology.

The partnership, according to Actility, comes at a time when the demand for AI-powered indoor location services is at an all-time high. “As businesses strive to provide seamless navigation experiences and personalized services to their customers,” the company indicates, “Actility and Combain are poised to meet these evolving needs with their combined expertise, innovative technologies, and market reach.”
