January 9, 2008—Aberdeen Group has released the latest installment in a series of reports on RFID adoption. Entitled Winning RFID Strategies for 2008, the report is available as a free download for a limited time. Following is an excerpt, including five key findings.

Winning RFID Strategies for 2008

As enterprises pursue and achieve business benefits from RFID deployments, their RFID solutions, technologies, and vendor selection strategies are evolving in ways that create more opportunities for success. A critical factor in such success is a greater focus on business process visibility, improvement, and optimization. Among Best-in-Class companies using RFID identified by Aberdeen Group research, 100% reduced process failure incidents by at least 20%, and improved process throughput by at least 10%. These positive results set the stage for broader RFID deployments in 2008 and beyond.

Five compelling facts from the research:

  1. 100% of Best-in-Class companies reduced process failure incidents by at least 20% with RFID.

  2. 100% of Best-in-Class companies improved process throughput by at least 10% with RFID.

  3. 81% of Best-in-Class companies realized labor savings in the management of work-in-process by at least 15% with RFID.

  4. 68% of retailers surveyed by Aberdeen Group cite process visibility improvement — not mandate compliance — as the top motivator of RFID adoption.

  5. RFID’s business benefits are expanding beyond the supply chain as technologies get cheaper and more capable, and vendors deliver tighter integration with business and IT infrastructures.
