Top 10: Best Practices for Deploying RFID in Harsh Environments

Deploying a successful RFID solution in harsh environments requires specific knowledge and considerations that can only be gained through extensive field application experience. Omni-ID will share the learnings it has gleaned from deploying millions of tags for some of the largest energy and industrial manufacturing companies in the world. From the Middle East to the North Sea, Omni-ID’s expertise has been sought to implement solutions across diverse environments—each with its own set of challenges. Omni-ID’s Kathy Gannon will share the experiences she has gained on the front lines deploying harsh-environment solutions. From architecting a solution for asset tracking to MRO or meeting regulatory requirements, Kathy will review the ten best practices that every end user and solution provider should consider when implementing solutions under harsh conditions.

Choosing the Right RFID Technology for Manufacturing and Harsh Environments

Many tags claim to be suitable for harsh environments, but as different as tags are, so are the definitions of “harsh” for various use cases. Standards are difficult to read, however, and tend to show up mostly in the form of strange numbers on datasheets. This presentation will explain the most relevant standards, as well as visualize the test methods associated with each, thereby enabling attendees to better map their needs to datasheet specifications and make the proper tag choice for their particular use cases. This session will also outline the steps that manufacturers must take to choose the right RFID system for a wide array of applications, including tracking parts bins, returnable transport containers, tools, work-in-process, finished goods inventory and much more, while building out an infrastructure for tracking and better managing other assets.

Improving Access Mat Visibility and Reducing Costs With RFID

Asset tracking in construction, oil and gas, and other energy-related industries is time-consuming, inaccurate and very costly. The digital world is just beginning to break into the tough industry. Access mats, the portable platforms used to support equipment and provide temporary roadways, are among the assets that are costing energy and construction companies millions of dollars per year. Golden Environmental Mat Services won the 2016 RFID Journal Green Award for its use of RFID to manage construction mats and to track the sterilization of contaminated mats to reduce environmental impact before deploying them back into the field. Learn how the matting services firm is using RFID and GPS tracking in its award-winning SmartMat to digitize industrial assets. Hear how the technology is increasing asset utilization and reducing costs, and how it is improving decision-making and project information.
