A UHF solution is enabling the University of Southern California (USC) to boost the accuracy of inventory data related to more than 60,000 pieces of on- and off-campus housing furnishings. Before the school deployed the system, tracking which items were at what locations, as well as which were broken, missing or due for replacement, required exhaustive manual inventory counts using temporary workers and many hours of labor to catalog what was where. In addition to tracking inventory, USC also began using the collected data to learn the lifespan of specific furniture. Because the department can track how long each item has been in use, as well as its typical lifespan, it can now begin ordering replacements shortly before items would typically wear out.
