I am currently trying to figure out how to automate surigcal supplies in the OR. Does anyone know of any hopsitals that have used RFID for their surigical supplies.
What I am attempting to do.
#1 Track all surgical supplies (Blades, Sponges, Catheters, Disposables) for inventory control.
#2 Track the same items for expirations, stock rotation. For instances if I have RFID'ed sponges I want to be able to walk into the central core and be alerted that in 1 month there are 3 packs of sponges that will be expiring. I will then be able to go to the bin and rotate those to the front.
#3 Eventually I would like to be able to incorporate #1 into automatically ordering through an automated process. Example: I walk into the central core, the system sees that RFID #420,421,543,564 is missing and associates those numbers with ndcs and automatically places the order through our prefered vendor.
If anyone has a place for me to start let me know.
#1 RFID System vendors.
#2 RFID tags, cheap.
#3 Documentation of interference or no interference with surgical equipment.
#4 Examples or places that have implimented RFID in a healthcare materials management setting.
Thank you in advance.
