A Case for Medical Device and Instrumentation Pedigree" Publication scheduled for 2006
1. My research indicates roughly 11,000-23,000 lives can be saved a year in the US, by addressing the Infections, errors and adverse events, associated only with Medical Devices and Instrumentation.
a. With the use of RFID in the sterilization process, tracking medical objects and manual events associated with these devices, we will be able to prevent a majority of these unfortunate deaths.
b. Given this current research, the case can be made for at least 4 other countries.
2. Healthcare providers could save an estimated US$3.1 billion ($1,100- $2,600 per hospital bed) in claims and costs related to infections, caused by medical instrumentation in the USA. http://www.usingrfid.com/news/read.asp?lc=x41523bx283zd&version=printable
3. We postulate there are three solutions, which could be readied for the 510K Pre-Market development stage, concerning instrumentation. If this is possible, product profitability may be technologically achieved within the next 3 years.
