RFID in High Tech 2012 to Highlight Ways to Reduce Data-Center Energy Costs
RFID Journal founder Mark Roberti will explain how RFID can lower data-center energy costs, at the company's first event focused on the high-technology sector.
Sep 27, 2012—RFID Journal announced today that founder and editor Mark Roberti will present a session at the RFID in High Tech conference and exhibition regarding radio frequency identification's role in reducing data-center energy costs. The session will highlight several successful deployments and provide information about technology providers that offer solutions designed for this specific application. The conference will be held on Oct. 11-12, 2012, at the Crowne Plaza San Jose-Silicon Valley, located in Milpitas, Calif.
"The New York Times recently highlighted the growing problem of data-center energy consumption and the enormous amount of energy that can be wasted," Roberti says. "RFID can't eliminate the problem, but it can reduce the energy wasted in cooling a data center. That's good for the environment, and can reduce costs for companies operating data centers."
RFID in High Tech, which is focused on RFID applications in the high-tech sector, will bring together leading and potential end users, as well as vendors looking to learn about the benefits that the technology can provide for their operations. What's more, the leading providers of RFID hardware, software and services will be there to demonstrate their latest solutions.
Maryanne Flynn, Cisco Systems' director of operations, will explain how her company is benefiting from tracking IT assets via RFID (see Cisco Tracks IT Assets Via RFID and Cisco's Business-Driven RFID Strategy). The technology allows Cisco to quickly identify and locate individual servers, storage devices and other assets. Conference attendees will hear how the firm has reduced the amount of time required for workers to conduct inventory counts, and learn about the additional benefits that it achieves from using the system.
