August 6, 2004—Deliotte Research has issued a report calling attention to China's emergence as a major influence on global standards. It warns against assuming China will remain merely a manufacturing center and advocates seeing the country as an innovator and potential owner of technology standards. RFID is an example of this transformation: companies that manfacture goods in China will soon begin RFID tagging shipments of those goods, and the tags will have to conform to China's RFID standards.
