Bike Maker Rolls Out RFID

June 25, 2004—Bicycle maker Pacific Cycle will this summer roll out an RFID system to track inventory received from Asian factories in its US-based warehouse. Each box will be tagged, providing far more detailed information than if only pallets were tracked. While the company first considered RFID simply to comply with the Wal-Mart mandate, it later decided to pursue a more aggressive and long-term RFID strategy that would realize the full potential of the technology. Ultimately, the company hopes to track its inventory all the way to the store shelf.
